Iran's Fifth-Generation S-300 Air Defense System

by JASmius

I wonder if this was from another of O's secret side "deals," or if it's independent of that entire perfidious mess, and if it even really matters at this point:

Iran will get four Russian S-300 surface-to-air missile systems after the two nations sign a contract next week, marking Tehran's much-feared first step in acquiring an advanced air defense capability.

Russian state arms producer Almaz-Antey in June said it would supply Iran with a modernized version of the S-300, among the world's most capable air defense systems, once a commercial agreement was reached, reported Reuters.

"The text of the contract is ready and our friends will go to Russia next week to sign the contract," Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan was quoted as saying by the Fars news agency.

Russia says it canceled a contract to deliver S-300s to Iran in 2010 under pressure from the West. But President Vladimir Putin lifted that self-imposed ban in April following an interim nuclear deal between Iran and world powers.

i.e. After Barack Obama had forfeited all of our leverage and Putin drew the spot-on accurate conclusion that he had less than nothing to fear from going ahead with the transaction anyway.

Why does this matter?  Because the S-300 may be a "fifth-generation" air-defense system, capable of shooting down even "fifth-generation" (i.e. advanced stealth) aircraft.  Even if it's still "just" fourth-generation, it's more than enough to wipe out our shrinking fleet of decrepit, obsolete, forty-year old F-15s Eagles and F-16s Fighting Falcons and that of the IAF.  There was a reason why we were developing the F-22 Raptor air-superiority fighter and the F-35 Lightning multi-role attack fighter/bomber.  With hundreds of both modernizing our air forces into the twenty-first century, we'd have maintained unchallenged mastery of the air for another generation.  But, of course, Barack Obama canceled both as soon as he could early in his rule, and now we likely lack the capability of carrying out an effective air attack on Iran's nuclear facilities that the next POTUS (if there ever is one) might need to carry out.  It would be a massacre without the necessary stealth capabilities.

Here's what it could have looked like - hell, the second segment looks like an F-35-led air incursion into what sure as shinola appears to be Iran - if Barack Obama had never existed.

Here's what it will really look like....

Bottom line: Barack Obama has, by design, left us one option: surrender.

Exit thought: So this is what his ass tastes like....
