Public Opposition To Gun Control Reaches 3-1

by JASmius

While the emasculation of local law enforcement over the past year-plus has bulldozed municipal police chiefs into spewing the Obama Regime gun control party line.....:

The nation's police chiefs are calling for universal background checks for anyone trying to purchase a firearm.

At a gathering in Chicago of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the top cops agreed the checks will help keep guns from people who shouldn't carry them.

Which is the documentedly diametric opposite of the truth, but never mind, this isn't about that.

The call that such checks for all purchases and not just those from licensed gun dealers is not new. But in the past, law enforcement officials have included such a call as part of a wider effort that included calls for longer prison sentences for those convicted of gun crimes.

Aaaaaaaand now they have dropped that demand because it would be "racist," and therefore cost them lots and lots of federal money.

Oh, right, I broke the meter AND the motif: ....Not only does the leftwingnut-hated National Rifle Association remain more popular than ever, but the same American public that swills down Democrat nonsense on just about every other issue, wipes its dribbling chins and asks to be hit again somehow, some way, inexplicably remains immune to their gun control hyperventilations:

As Democrats look to make gun violence a core issue in the 2016 presidential campaign, a new Washington Post-ABC News poll finds wide agreement that gun violence is a problem but bitter and stark division on whether new gun laws should trump the constitutional right to gun ownership.

The survey finds that 46% say new laws to reduce gun violence should be a bigger priority, while 47% say it's more important to protect the right to own firearms. This marks a shift away from gun laws since April 2013, when Democrats' push for increased background checks fell short in the aftermath of the massacre at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut; back then, a 52% majority said new laws should be a priority....

But while many have called for stricter gun laws in their wake, the Post-ABC poll finds far more point to problems treating people with mental health issues. By a more than 2-to-1 margin, more people say mass shootings reflect problems identifying and treating people with mental health problems rather than inadequate gun control laws (63% to 23%).

There are wide partisan divisions on this issue; 82% of Republicans say shootings reflect a failure to identify and treat people with mental health problems, compared with 65% of independents and 46% of Democrats. [emphases added]

That's how fecal the Dems' gun-grabbing hysterics have become, ladies and gentlemen: Almost half of their rank & file recognize that it's unadulterated twaddle on the order of blaming major hurricanes on the world's male population for failing to put the toilet seat down before they flush (which, by the way, is a far more plausible explanation for major hurricanes than "climate change").  There really is no other way to analogize blaming inanimate objects for violent acts of pure evil, as though guns were sentient alien beings roaming around firing themselves or capable of telepathic mind control over their poor, weak-minded human slaves, compelled against their wills to pull their captors' triggers and their fellow homo sapiens.

I'm not entirely thrilled with ascribing all gun violence to "mental illness," truth be told.  Some of these Dylan Roofs and Chris Harper Mercers, etc. are saner than you and I, but are plainly and simply evil, a concept the Left instinctively rejects for its being the truth and because in their religion of Marxism, only inanimate objects are accorded moral accountability (through their conservative/constitutionalist human agents, of course).  But on the gun control/Second Amendment continuum, it's a gaping improvement over ever more stringent (and illegal at the federal level) gun laws that are irrelevant to gun violence but very effective at lefties' true objective of a defenseless citizenry unable to mount even token resistance to the aspiring tyrant in the White House and any similar successors that ever eventually follow him.

And Hillary Clinton is going to lead with this issue, is she?  Be our guest, your majesty, be our guest.
