Is The Obama Doctrine Finally Jumping The Shark?

by JASmius

We can never assume such a thing, of course; the leftwingnut resistance to reality, no matter how glaringly it clashes with their radical, extremist narrative on whatever issue, isn't legendary for nothing, after all.  But for those of us who have wondered over the years, when it comes to the war with Islamic Fundamentalism, what it would take to finally batter down Dems' deflector shields of delusion and admit and acknowledge the truth, the latest ISIS strike in Paris may be that threshold moment.  I give you the ranking member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, who is starting to sound like her colleagues John McCain and Lindsey Graham on the subject:

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), the top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, joined Republicans in saying the U.S. needed to do more.

“It has become clear that limited air strikes and support for Iraqi forces and the Syrian opposition are not sufficient to protect our country and our allies,” she said in a statement.

Indeed, it is not.  It is also true that nobody with three brain cells to rub together could possibly have ever believed that it would be sufficient.  That non-"strategy" was never for any other purpose than to kick the proverbial can down the road, to create the fiction of a "fight" against the Islamic State in the wake of the horrific beheading videos of  over a year ago when the public was demanding action without actually doing anything to "degrade," much less "defeat," ISIS.  Whether this was tacit aid to and collaboration with the bloodthirsty caliphate or simply applying a bandaid to an annoyingly inconvenient wound and hoping it would go away, it was a non-"strategy" that was guaranteed to fail.  And now we see the latest mass attack by this enemy in a Western capital not twenty-four hours after President Dhimmi himself declared them "contained".

The bandaid has been torn off the wound; and now it has become even more inconvenient.

Perhaps that's why President Tolerance thin-skinnedly dubbed the commonsensical move of barring any more Muslim influx into our country to avoid our own Parisian massacre "unAmerican":

Seems to me that mowing down defenseless "infidel" civilians in their own communities because they don't bow down to one's demon "god" is "un-American".  So are their culturally imperialistic expectations:

Muslims emigrating to non-Muslim countries fully expect those non-Muslim countries to convert to Islam and impose Sharia law, and the closer their origins are to the Middle East the more pervasive and near-universal that expectation becomes.  And if the targeted non-Muslims don't immediately knuckle under and comply....well, we all know what happens next.

Perhaps that's why even some Democrat governors are balking at accepting any more "Syrian refugees":

“Protecting the safety and security of our people is the first responsibility of government,” spokesman William Hinkle said. “And [New Hampshire] Governor [Maggie Hassan] has always made clear that we must ensure robust refugee screening to protect American citizens, and believes that we must know more of the facts about those who carried out the Paris terrorist attacks and have strong assurances of safety from our intelligence officials before we admit refugees from Syria into the United States.”

Hinkle told the Daily Beast over email that Hassan believes the refugee settlement program should stop immediately.

“The Governor has always made clear that we must ensure robust refugee screening to protect American citizens,” he emailed, “and the Governor believes that the federal government should halt acceptance of refugees from Syria until intelligence and defense officials can assure that the process for vetting all refugees, including those from Syria, is as strong as possible to ensure the safety of the American people.”

It's a sign of the times we have inflicted upon ourselves that the biggest no-brainer statement that shouldn't even need to be uttered and should go without saying is a badge of courage guaranteed to bring its utterers withering condemnation and denunciations as all the usual leftwingnut epithets, most particularly from the indignant, imperial top.  What is new and novel is that it is not now just conservatives and Republicans who are doing the uttering.  If some Donk governors are closing their States' borders to more jihadist imports, and some congressional Democrats are daring to publicly declare that the big-eared Emperor has no Middle East clothes, perhaps that shark-jumping moment really has arrived.

Pity the price had to be so steep - and that we're far from paying all of it yet.

Here is an interesting, though still woefully inadequate, suggestion for a more muscular anti-ISIS strategy.  A seven thousand strong airborne division to take Raqqa, the ISIS capital, would just be a beachhead at best.  But it would be a significant step in the right direction.
