Even Some Democrats Growing Alarmed @ America's Defenselessness

by JASmius

Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy sounding the alarm (sort of) on Vladimir Putin putting his nuclear ballistic missile submarines in place for a massive strategic first strike against the United States and Europe:

Russian President Vladimir Putin is positioning submarines armed with nuclear weapons "dangerously close" to the United States and countries in Europe, claims one Democrat in the U.S. Senate.

Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy said Monday the Navy has to put together an effective plan to replace some of its older subs, reports the Washington Examiner. "No one is suggesting that Putin is contemplating a nuclear launch against a NATO country, but it's not clear how tethered to reality Putin is," Murphy said. "And it should make us nervous that many of his submarines are starting to get dangerously close to the U.S. and our allies.

Hence, the "sort of" reference above.  If Senator Murphy wasn't suggesting precisely that Putin is not only contemplating a nuclear launch against us and our allies, but is preparing to carry one out as we speak, he'd have no reason to sound the alarm in the first place.

Not that there's anything that can be done in time to stop it now, of course.

"Russian submarines have been pushing out to the very precipice of NATO-ally waters. We have seen Russian boats coming closer to the U.S. and to our European partner ports than ever before, in immensely provocative ways — in ways that were rare even during the days of the Cold War."

Because, of course, during the Cold War We the People elected American presidents who were serious about national defense, as opposed to Manchurian candidates that revel in being the personal bitches of every anti-Western dictator on Earth.  Which is why Czar Vlad isn't so much pushing the envelope as simply ignoring his prey's possible reactions to his "immense provocations" because he knows he has no need of being heedful because (1) he's taken Barack Obama's measure....

....and (2) he knows that the U.S. and NATO lack both the military capability of stopping or counter-threatening him and the economic strength to ever regain that military capability:

If the Navy is not able to secure the necessary funding to build more Ohio-class subs, which are armed with nuclear missiles....

And are thirty years old, which means thirty years obsolete compared to Putin's state of the art SLBM "boomers".

....it will have to slow down its production of Virginia-class attack subs. [emphasis added]

We need both - desperately - but we can't have both because we can't afford both.  But God(bama) forbid that we repeal ObamaCare or privatize Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid to free up the cash for the emergency measures needed for national survival.

Right, Chris?:

Murphy said he would like to see both sub programs continue.

"We've got to find a way to do both," he said, reports the Examiner. "If you look at the pace of Russian and Chi[Comm] building programs, we can't afford to drop Virginia-class production back to one for more than a year."

In the words of Guinan to the alternate Captain Picard, "I have told you what you must do".  Now we'll see if you're genuinely serious enough to do it.

I wouldn't hold my breath, folks.
