"Voice" singer Christina Grimmie shot dead in Orlando
Christina Grimmie's fame began when she sang on YouTube videos. A third place finish on NBC's The Voice sent her into a larger world, and she began to do concerts. Last night was her final concert. After the show, while signing autographs, a man walked up to her and shot her. He traveled to Florida to meet her, and shoot her, and so far police have not determined a motive. It is unclear if the shooter got the gun into the venue, nor has the suspect's name been given out, yet.
The singer's brother tacked the gunman, likely saving the crowd from further bloodshed.
Grimmie was rushed to the hospital while in critical condition, and she died shortly afterward.
"It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord," her publicist Heather Weiss said in a statement. "She was shot at her show in Orlando and, unfortunately, didn't survive the gunshot wounds. We ask at this time that you respect the privacy of her family and friends in their time of mourning."
