Attack on American Soldiers in Afghanistan

Update: Number of U.S. troops injured confirmed at 7.

The incident at a base in northern Afghanistan where at least one Afghan soldier was killed (and possibly another wounded) and several American military personnel were injured was committed when an assumed friendly Afghan soldier attacked the Americans.  The Afghan army originally reported that the incident resulted in four dead American soldiers, but the U.S. military later denied that report, claiming that the American troops were only injured.  The exact number of wounded American soldiers remains unspecified at this time.  The attack occurred at Camp Shaheen, the headquarters of the Afghan army's 209th Corps in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif.

Less than a week ago three U.S. military service personnel were killed, and a fourth wounded, when an Afghan soldier opened fire on them at a base in eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar province.  The June 11 attack was also committed by an assumed Afghan friendly.

This attack occurs near the same time frame in which a Naval vessel collided with a Philippine ship off the coast of Japan with questionable circumstances attached.
