The latest Islamic terror attack in the United States occurred mere blocks north of the World Trade Center site where nearly three thousand people were killed on 9/11. The suspect planned the attack for weeks, red flags were waving in all directions, and Homeland Security even interviewed the suspect back in 2015. Eight people are dead, more than a dozen have been injured, and he did it in the name of ISIS, and Islam.
The suspect began his rampage with the ring of a school bell, and then he drove a truck down a bike path, hitting pedestrians along his "corridor of death", as he headed towards the site of the World Trade Center. He was ultimately stopped by a school bus after he terrorist slammed into it at the end of his deadly route. 29-year-old Sayfullo Saipov then jumped out of the rented truck he had used as a weapon of Islamic terrorism yelling “Allahu Akbar,” only to be stopped for good by a hero police officer. Saipov was shot by 1st Precinct Police Officer Ryan Nash in the abdomen.
The style of the terror attack in New York City was more reminiscent of what we have been seeing in Europe, meaning that the Muslim population inside the United States is getting large enough that Muslims in the country are becoming more emboldened to be agitators and terrorists on our soil.
Since the terror plot took weeks to plan out, that means the suspect was making phone calls, texting people, meeting people. . . yet, nobody said anything or noticed anything. Even worse, he was able to carry out his terror against America during a time of maximum security, since the area was getting prepared for the New York City Marathon.
The suspect entered the United States under a Diversity Visa Program in 2010. The Diversity Visa Program is an immigration lottery program allowing immigration from countries with low numbers of immigrants coming into the U.S. to enter our country. Once he got here through that program it was only a matter of time before the Uzbekistan native was ready to carry out a terror attack. ISIS claims responsibility, the suspect's allegiance to ISIS, and an ISIS flag image months ago at the site gives us a reason to believe the attack was, indeed, ISIS related - Fox News states the suspect followed the ISIS playbook to a "T".
In response to the attack, President Trump has ordered more 'extreme vetting', and an end to the diversity visa lottery program, a program, by the way, that is not merit based, and was originally proposed and championed by Democrat Chuck Schumer.
