Obama Is "President Nero" Fiddling "While World Burns"

by JASmius

No, not this Nero.....

....and more's the pity.  "Fire everything!" wouldn't necessarily be the wisest or most prudent thing to do, but it would be so gosh darn refreshing that it would be powerfully tempting nonetheless.

But no.  Even though it's already been established - by the hated Fox News, no less - that Czar Vlad's cutouts in eastern Ukraine shot down Malaysian Airlines Flight 17, the Obama Regime is quietly puttering around creating the appearance of trying to - note the nomenclature - "build a case" for what is common knowledge by now, but which the White House doesn't want to have to acknowledge:

The United States is building a case linking pro-Russian separatists to the shocking downing of a passenger jet in Ukraine.

A somber President Barack Obama declared the deaths of those on board, including at least one American, an "outrage of unspeakable proportions."

Did somebody tell him that spending thirty eight seconds on this Thursday between jokes and then speeding off to another fundraiser might not have been the most....presidential of conduct?  Does that somebody now reside in solitary confinement?

But let not your hearts be troubled my friends, the "somberness" is all that's required.

That and a legal brief:

The president spoke shortly after Samantha Power, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, outlined preliminary evidence against Russia and the separatists during an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council. Power said separatists were spotted Thursday with an SA-11 anti-aircraft missile at a location close to the site where the plane came down and that they had boasted on social media sites about shooting down a plane, then later deleted those posts.

Power joined Obama in calling for an immediate international investigation, and she warned that the separatists and those supporting them would have "good reason to cover up evidence of their crime." The U.S. has called for evidence from the crash site to remain in Ukraine until investigators determine who is responsible.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, lawfare today, lawfare tomorrow, lawfare forever.  We will not intervene military to expel Putin's Proxies from eastern Ukraine; we will not send military aid to the Ukrainian government; we will not lower the sanctions boom on the Russian financial and energy sectors; we will not export any of our embarrassment of fossil fuel riches to the Euros to shatter Vlad's economic leverage over them and Ukraine; we won't even shoot down an Aeroflot passenger jet in retaliation.  We will criminally prosecute....somebody.  Not our good friend the Czar, oh heavens, no - hasn't he suffered enough from being downgraded to cheaper body oil?  Ditto all his apparatchiks and cronies.  Maybe somebody in the "People's Republic of Donetsk".  How about the driver of the truck that had the SA-11 surface-to-air missile launcher in its bed?  Yeah, that'll work.  Especially since he's white.

And maybe not even that:

Obama warned Russia anew on Friday that the U.S. has the capacity to increase the economic pain, but he outlined no specific potential actions. He did say he saw no U.S. military role in the conflict that has stemmed in part from Russia's annexation of the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine. [emphasis added]
A real profile in cabbage, isn't he?

Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) certainly thinks so:

Barack Obama is "sitting on the sidelines" in the Ukraine and Gaza crises, making him little more than "President Nero" fiddling "while the world burns," Senator Ron Johnson charged Friday.

The Wisconsin Republican and member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee blasted the president for attending fundraisers in New York on Thursday night, the same day of a "barbaric" attack on Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 and Israel's push into Gaza.

Johnson told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV that Obama's priorities are "outrageous."

"I'm hoping Americans are watching as President Nero fiddles while the world burns," Johnson said. "It is outrageous that we have the ground operations conducted in Gaza, we have an airliner knocked out of the sky — blown out of the sky — over Ukraine, and President Obama takes off for fundraisers in New York."

"This is a pattern of activity like his Las Vegas fundraiser after four Americans were killed in Benghazi," Johnson added. "Elections have consequences, and right now, unfortunately, America is burying the burden of a very bad, a very unwise decision in November 2012." [emphasis added]

Indeed we are, Senator.  Just as the Ukrainians would be burying the 298 dead from Flight MH-17.  Or would if there were recognizable body fragments, or viscera, or ganglia, or something to bury.

But that's what 62 million Americans voted for.  Twice.  And while anybody can make a mistake the first time, and flukes happen, when mistakes are repeated, it's harder to maintain the case that they're still "mistakes".  And the possibility that nobody wants to acknowledge begins to become impossible to ignore: Maybe, just maybe, a majority of the American people "just want to watch the world burn," just like their demigod.

Don't think so?  You've got....thirty-eight seconds to convince me otherwise.  Then I'm off to the next fundraiser.  It's a tough job, but somebody's got to do it.
