Murrieta's Harry Ramos Speaks Out Regarding Mayor Alan Long's DUI and Car Accident

Posted by Douglas V. Gibbs

By Harry Ramos, Murrieta Mayor Pro-Tem, Press Release: October 17, 2014

On October 16 at 2018 Mayor Alan Long was arrested for 23153(a) of the California Vehicle Code – Driving while under the influence causing injury.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the four kids who were injured and especially for the girl who is still in the hospital. I cannot begin to express my disbelief, disappointment, and embarrassment of this situation. While I am always a strong supporter of due process and have the utmost respect and faith in our justice system, the known facts cannot be ignored or excused.

Under no circumstance should a Mayor ever make a decision to get into a car while under the influence. I am especially critical of Mayor Long because he is a first responder and knows firsthand the tragic consequences of drinking and driving.

I want to be clear, I do believe Mayor Alan Long is an honorable man but even honorable men can make terrible decisions that could last a life time. I truly hope Mayor Long in reflection seriously considers the negative impact this is having on our city and is coming to the decision to resign.

Moving forward we must come together as a community and support not only the children who were injured but their family and classmates. As parents we must not let this opportunity pass to teach our children the dangers and ramifications on drinking and driving.
