Putin's New Soviet Union Eyes Baltic States

By Douglas V. Gibbs

No worries.  Putin has no worries because the world is afraid, unwilling, and a shriveled shell of its former self.

There are some people that can scream at the top of their lungs, and never gain an ounce of respect, nor strike fear in the heart of even the frailest members of society.  Then there are those that command respect.  Their mere presence tells you not to mess with them, don't push too far, and mind your manners when they are around.

Ronald Reagan was the latter, and Barack Obama is the former.  President Barack Obama is a joke, and the leaders of the world know it, and as a result they have been emboldened to do as they please.

Next on that list for Russian President Vladimir Putin is the Baltic States, NATO members in northeastern Europe, historically caught in tug of wars between Russia and Germany.

Obama's pinpricking of ISIS has not only distracted the Americans from what is going on in Ukraine, but has shown Putin what Obama is capable of. . . and Putin is laughing.

Russia says out of one side of her mouth that she will help with gathering information on ISIS, while contemplating their own war beyond Ukraine that could drag all of Europe, and NATO, into a worldwide conflict.

Putin, experiencing no resistance to his imperial advancements, will soon begin to send his tendrils out to Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

As NATO members, unlike Ukraine, if attacked, the NATO allies are bounded to defend them.  While Putin talks about nuclear capabilities, he has also said in a private conversation (that I am sure he was a part of making public) that he has no fear in advancing into Poland, Romania, and the Baltic states, if he really wanted to.

Considering the appeasers in office right now in America, and the European countries, there would be no rush to the Baltics' defense if they were targeted.  The officials in the West would wonder what to do, threaten more sanctions, and then stand by and watch as Russia pushed into that region.

The way Putin will do it is the same way he grabbed South Ossetia from Georgia, Crimea from Ukraine, and the way he has waged his war in Eastern Ukraine. . . by employing dissent within the country, and allowing internal rebel groups to do his dirty work.  And then, when they cry for Russia to come and assist, Russian troops will march in without a shot being fired, to help quell the unrest. . . as peacekeepers.

It is not a matter of "if" Putin will begin to move on the Baltic States. . . if is only a matter of "when."
