Rand Paul To Use Despicable Legislative Tactic To Gut Planned Parenthood

by JASmius

Is this a good deed done by bad means?  Traditionally, we rightwingers have not looked kindly upon parliamentary shenanigans like attaching amendments to totally unrelated bills.  That's something Democrats usually do to sneak through corrupt, illegal, and/or otherwise statist schemes to inglorious fruition, and when Republicans do it, the conservative base usually blows a gasket.

Or is this a case of fighting fire with fire, since Democrats will defend Planned Parenthood and its half-billion dollar annual federal funding gravytrain to the last jackass?:

Kentucky Senator Rand Paul may add an amendment to the federal highway bill to keep federal dollars from Planned Parenthood.

The presidential hopeful said in a statement on his campaign website that he will make a move next week to strip all federal funding from Planned Parenthood.

"The recent revelation that this taxpayer-funded organization is selling body parts of the unborn further proves that this agency deserves our scorn, not our tax dollars," Paul said.

"I plan to do whatever I can to stop them and will introduce an amendment to pending Senate legislation to immediately strip every dollar of Planned Parenthood funding," he added.

Roll Call is noting that one piece of pending legislation that the Senate is expected to tackle next week is the transportation bill, which has bipartisan support.

The highway funding bill needs to be passed by July 31st, before the government's authority to provide transportation funds to the states runs out. [emphasis added]

Legislative blackmail, in other words.  With which I certainly have no problem.  After all, if the Democrats can hold the entire shrinking Pentagon budget hostage to force the GOP majority to continue the Obama Agenda as if they were still in control of Congress, why shouldn't Rand Paul hold transportation funding hostage to force Democrats to pull the plug on their criminal, infanticidal, cannibalistic allies?

But just remember, my Tea Party friends, if you support Senator Paul's actions, you're sacrificing one of your principles for another.  And that's the price of life AND liberty.
