In any previous time to this one, Lieutenant-Commander Timothy White and one of the four slain Marines in Chattanooga last week who managed to return fire against the murderous and blessedly deceased jihadist Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez would be considered heroes. No, wait, I take that at least partially back; there wouldn't have been anything at all remarkable about American warriors in a military recruitment center being armed and defending themselves against a declared enemy.
But in The Age Of The One? They can't touch the Marine, but Lieutenant-Commander White will be considered an insubordinate criminal who's probably headed for a court martial:
Reports are surfacing that a Navy officer and a Marine returned fire at the gunman who killed five service members last week in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
According to the Navy Times, multiple military officials with internal information about the [attack] say that Lieutenant-Commander Timothy White, the commanding officer at the Navy Operational Support Center, fired a personal firearm at Mohammed Abdulazeez during the attack.
The Washington Post also reported that one of the four Marines killed in the attack may have fired a 9mm Glock at the gunman.
I'm not kidding, folks. Peace Commissariat policy requires all military personnel other than MPs to be defenseless on federal property. Or, in other words, the U.S. armed forces are subject to the most suffocating gun control of all, leading to the absurd - and lethal - spectacle of military bases and installations being "gun-free zones" at the same time that they are importing jihadists into this country as fast as they can. Almost as if "the powers that be" want and are welcoming our enemies to come here and mow down all our servicemen and women in cold blood.
Unless they're wearing their new cross-service, unisex duty uniforms, of course....
Because what other attire could provide better camouflage than that?
Back in the redoubt of sanity, governors in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Indiana and Florida - all Republicans, of course - have ordered National Guardsmen to be armed, and Florida Governor Rick Scott (another Republican) has moved recruiters to armories.
Unfortunately for formerly incoming Army Chief of Staff General Mark Milley, he has sided with the "insubordinate criminals," and has most likely committed at least career suicide:
General Mark Milley, Barack Obama's nominee to lead the Army, said Tuesday the government "should seriously consider" allowing soldiers at recruiting stations to be armed on the job.
According to a Defense One report, Milley — who currently leads the Army Forces Command — spoke Tuesday about his thoughts on the subject.
"I think under certain conditions, both on military bases and in out stations — recruiting stations, reserve centers — that we should seriously consider it," Milley said during his Senate confirmation hearing. "In some cases, I think it's appropriate."
Bad move, General. What do you think you are? A warrior?
There is another designation for the heroic Marine and Lieutenant-Commander White, though: Nullifiers of a suicidal, psychotic leftwingnut policy for which there's no reason why either of them, or the other three Marines, or the thirteen killed and thirty wounded in the Fort Hood jihadist rampage, etc., etc., etc., need to be, or have been, sacrificed.
When Barack Obama orders his Secret Service detail that protects him and his family to disarm, we can give him a listen. Otherwise, keep packing, my warrior (and civilian) friends.
UPDATE: I reinstate what I partially took back about the heroism of the murdered Chattanooga Marines:
Some of the five servicemen who were fatally wounded effectively sacrificed themselves during the assault on Thursday, diverting the gunman away from a larger group of potential victims, according to a law enforcement official briefed on the investigation into the killings…
Major-General Paul W. Brier of the Marines said: “Our Marines reacted the way you would expect, rapidly going room to room, getting people to safety. After they had gotten to safety, some willingly ran back into the fight. All of us can be extremely proud of what our Marines did that day.”
Mr. Abdulazeez went out through the back of the building, Mr. Reinhold said, and into the fenced-in motor pool area, where “two service members attempted to provide cover and assist the military personnel attempting to get over the fence.”
It was there, he said, that four of the five victims were killed and that the police caught up to the gunman. In the shootout that followed, an officer was wounded, and Mr. Abdulazeez was killed.
When we thank servicepeople for their service, this is the kind of thing we're referring to, because they're all willing to do so.
Meanwhile, the Obamagon isn't budging on keeping the military disarmed.
