What Leftist Ban Proposals Regarding Confederate Icons has in Common with Islam

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Karl Marx said that peace will only come when there is no opposition to socialism.  Islam calls itself the Religion of Peace, peace being achieved when the world is fully converted to Islam and there is no opposition.  Silencing and eliminating the opposition has always been the modus operandi of any system steeped in authoritarianism.  Therefore, the demand by the Democrats in America to ban all icons of the confederacy from the Old South, or be silenced if you dare to have an opinion that opposes homosexuality, runs right in line with that historical reality.

How many people were appalled by the Islamic State destroying historical artifacts in Iraq, or the Muslim cry to take down the Great Pyramids, because they symbolized a part of regional history that does not conform with Islamic teachings?  But is that not the same kind of thinking behind the liberal left's cries for banning the confederate battle flag, suing anyone who dares to have an opinion against homosexuality, or taking down monuments that depict confederate era scenes or persons?

Collectivist statism always seeks to silence its opposition, and this always historically leads to the statists using coercion to force society into compliance.  When the coercion surfaces, violence always eventually emerges, as the statists (be they communists, Nazis, Roman Centurions, Muslims, or liberal leftists) demand compliance and obedience or else face the consequences of the full penalty of the law that they put into place.

A great example of this in action in America, aside from the war on history regarding confederate icons, is the gay agenda.  Now that the Supreme Court has defined homosexual behavior as a civil right, the supporters of "gay rights" have already said they plan to use coercion to change the opinion of society, while going after business owners, churches, educational institutions, and any other entity that "discriminates" against their agenda.  The freedoms of religion, speech, press, assembly and the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances (that's the entire 1st Amendment, mind you) are under assault, and those rights are being taken by the force of law.

How is that different from Islam, or communism, or Nazism?

So, while the new age modern day book burners of the 21st Century target confederate battle flags, monuments, and "hate speech" (which will soon, no doubt, include the Bible), remember that those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it. . . and also remember that you, the bleeding hearted liberals that are trying to only make sure everyone complies with your narcissistic concept of moral supremacy, are doing nothing different than the terrorists and jihadists of the Islamic State as they force non-Muslims to convert or die, and destroy archaeological sites because they find them offensive to the false prophet Muhammad.
