.....Wind blows, water makes wet, fire burns, Hillary Clinton induces projectile nausea. I'm noticing a pattern here, and while FBI Director James Comey may or may not also recognize it, he has figured out the connection between persecuting cops and the public going unprotected and how that presents recognizable opportunities for the bloody doers of no-good:
An anti-law enforcement backlash in the wake of deadly police encounters may be helping fuel a spike in violent crime, according to FBI chief James Comey.
Not "may," is.
In a [mostly courageous] speech at the University of Chicago Law School Friday, the agency's director weighed in on the....Ferguson effect that....makes police less aggressive and criminals more so, the New York Times reports.
"I don't know whether that explains it entirely, but I do have a strong sense that some part of the explanation is a chill wind that has blown through American law enforcement over the last year," Comey said.
The extra scrutiny and criticism of police comes in the wake of fatal encounters in Ferguson, Missouri, Cleveland, New York and Baltimore.
All of which are drowning in runaway crime waves. Almost as if local cops aren't even there.
According to the Times, Comey said he's been told officers who normally would stop to question suspicious people are deciding instead to stay in their patrol cars, worried their encounters will wind up on a cell phone video.
Precisely the wrong incentives are now in place, in other words. Criminals, especially "thugs of color," being politically favored, are encouraged to run wild, especially against politically disfavored groups like whites, but let a police officer even attempt to deter it through the aforementioned questioning, and the whole "racial profiling" kerfuffle will erupt. And given that armed cops confronting armed criminals does have the potential to lead to violent confrontations, for which armed cops are automatically blamed and condemned and smeared, their careers forfeit and the lives of themselves and their families at risk forever, eh, better to just stay in their squad cars and eat doughnuts like Chief Wiggum.
The core symptom of the disease afflicting our country and our culture is that everything - EVERYTHING - is politicized. There is no escape, there is no refuge, there is no redoubt from the reach of the leftwingnut-dominated political arena. No exceptions are allowed or tolerated. Even if it costs innocent lives - as long as they're the "right" lives.
I'm frankly at least moderately astonished that Director Comey gave this address. I take it for granted that his resume has been updated. His next performance review with Loretta Lynch should be....awkward.
