States willingly accepting federal stimulus funds is unconstitutional, and gives the federal government leverage over the states that accept any percentage of the monies offered. The founding fathers wrote the U.S. Constitution with the intention to keep the federal government out of state's business, and by accepting funds, states are essentially inviting the federal government to intrude into their operations. In other words, money given always has strings attached. Just ask General Motors and AIG.
Apparently, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, did not recognize any strings attached, and decided it was okay to accept most of the stimulus funds offered by the federal government to her state.
The message sent by accepting stimulus funds, while vocally condemning the Obama economic recovery actions, is one that is contradictory, and compromises the message of conservatism that the governor proclaims to uphold.
Some of the offerings by the Obama Administration are to establish programs recommended by the federal government, but none of these potential programs have a promise of continued support, and the majority of them further extends governmental intrusion into the lives of Americans.
Governor Sanford of South Carolina has remained steadfast, so far, in his refusal of federal funds.
Any Republican Governor, or any governor for that matter, accepting funds are committing an error in judgment, and by accepting the funds, are participating in the government takeover of the states, and private industries, that the Obama Administration has launched. Acceptance of federal stimulus funds is enabling, and assisting, the federal government to continue to expand in socialistic, and possibly totalitarian, proportions.
