Sanford's Hike Cost Him Presidential Bid

I like South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford. He is one of the rising stars in the Republican Party. However, his little disappearing act over the last few days might have cost him the next step in his political career.

Democrats can hide dirty cash in their freezer as Democratic Rep. William Jefferson did, murder a woman as Teddy Kennedy did, lie under oath as Bill Clinton did, call the CIA a bunch of liars to cover up her own lie as Nancy Pelosi did, and illegally fire Inspector Generals as Obama did (his sudden compliance after the fact is too late), and nobody gets upset, and the media could care less. Take a hiking vacation, and tell nobody about it, and Republican Sanford is screwed. That's how it is. Republicans have to walk the straight line, and any deviation, or action that could be considered weird, and all of your political aspirations are down the tubes.

One thing is for sure, in the defense of the liberal head hunters; a politician that vanishes for a week without telling anyone, and without keeping in some kind of contact, could be considered a deriliction of duty. After all, even the next in line, Lieutenant Governor Andrew Bauer, didn't know where the governor was, and was not even told to take the reins while Sanford was gone.

Weird.
