Consequences

Dad used to tell me when I was a kid that the best way to stay out of trouble is to not put yourself in that kind of situation in the first place. If the possibility of something bad happening is allowed to exist, when it happens you have nobody to blame but yourself.

Right and Wrong go beyond just biblical standards. Scriptural limitations were created to protect us from consequences. Unwanted consequences can be the result of poor decisions, and God knew with our sinful nature we tend to be lousy decision makers when it comes to that kind of thing. Our lives are a direct, or indirect, result of the decisions we make in life, and often without the guiding principles of Judeo-Christian values, we tend to foul things up.

Promiscuity opens up the opportunity for an unwanted pregnancy, or disease. Unhealthy lifestyles opens up the opportunity for unhealthy consequences. Unwillingness to manage one's debts properly will result in debt, and worse. Gambling and alcohol can open one up to addiction. Eating too much on a consistent basis can lead to obesity. Love of money creates a situation where other, more important things become footnotes.

Anytime anything becomes more important than God, it tends to lead us into trouble.

The Left, hoping to justify most poor decisions, is working to eliminate, or at least downplay, a number of consequences. This way they can justify their selfishness.

Condoms and abortions eliminate sexual consequences, for example. Now, don't get me wrong, birth control in itself is not something I recommend against, but when it is used to protect against disease and pregnancy because the person is being promiscuous or adulterous, rather than the person remaining pure until marriage, the condom becomes a bad thing.

It is like a large knife. A knife is a tool. It can be used to cut food, cut rope to free whatever is restrained, or kill. The knife is not necessarily a bad thing, but the wielder's use of it can make it a bad thing, as much as a good thing. The holder of the knife, his usage, and the motivations behind the use of the knife, all become factors, and can make the knife a terrible thing.

With Freedom comes responsibility, and eliminating consequences does not make something right - it is just an attempt to limit God's influence, and eventually replace God with the all-powerful government.
