Water Main Breaks Plague Los Angeles During Mandatory Water Conservation

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Thirty water main breaks have occurred in Los Angeles since September first, and that is not even counting the dozen or so water main breaks in the surrounding cities. The "major blowouts" have affected customers, caused street closures and flooding, required significant street repairs and have generated media attention.

I remember a couple times sink-holes caused by water main breaks dropping fire trucks into the street, leaving the vehicles almost verticle.

Strangely, we are suffering a larger rash of water main breaks than usual, and it is coincidentally happening at the worst possible time - during a drought that has us under mandatory water conservation.

As the water mains break, and the water levels reach critical levels, the quality of water is also deteriorating.

But the State of California is broke after decades of leftist politics (including the Republicans who also have been "tax and spend" politicians).

And we thought Tijuana water (and politics) was bad. . .
