In Orange County, just south of Los Angeles, Costa Mesa police are stepping up patrols as a result of a number of incidents at the Islamic Educational Center, including the burning of two copies of the Koran. The Muslim part of an interfaith display in Mission Viejo was defaced as well.
The local news broadcast on Fox 11 Los Angeles chose to make the story about anti-Muslim activities in California one of their lead stories Sunday night, and as well they should. Vandalism is always illegal, as well as any kind of threat against any particular group of people.
What is interesting about the report is that stories of the wrongs against Islam are almost always reported, but the vandalized Christian churches, or the slaughter of non-Muslims by Islamic Jihadists, is rarely reported. This, I believe, is the result of a double standard that exists because of the existence of political correctness in America.
Not only is the influence of Islam, and the fear the Jihadists pedal, swaying the reporting trends of the media, but also there is an obvious slant that continually defends, and makes concessions for, Islam, while ignoring any wrongs perpetrated against Christianity.
In the mainstream media where are the reports on the Muslim girl that converted to Christianity and fled for fear for her life from her parents in Ohio? How many Americans have even heard Rifqa Bary's name, much less knows her story?
What about when UCLA banned thanking God at the graduation ceremony earlier this year? Did you hear anything about that? I am willing to bet that thanking Allah would have been okay.
In Pakistan 50 Muslim villagers attacked Christians showing "The Jesus Film," injuring three part-time evangelists and four Christians in attendance.
I am not trying to create a competition of "we are more persecuted than you." I am simply pointing out the double standard of the media, and society. If Islam is offended, everyone is up in arms. If Christians are slaughtered, nobody even knows about it, much less cares.
And what is even more alarming is that while there are some who claim to be Christians and act in ways that are not taught by any measurable percentage of Christian establishments, and they are reported on in the news as quick as possible, here in the United States a report by the FBI revealing that 10% of mosques in America preach Jihad may have appeared on the blogs, but that little nugget was conveniently ignored by the mainstream press.
In other words, if an idiot in the name of Christianity like Phelps of Westboro Church holds a sign up that says "God Hates Fags," it is all over the newslines. If a person burns a Koran it is considered a hate crime, and people are aghast over the horrendous deed. Christian persecution doesn't even get a nod, and a crucifix in a bottle of urine is considered art. Yet a cartoonist in Denmark fear for his life because he made a cartoon that didn't depict Muhammed in the best light.
It is a sad state of affairs, to be honest, and I am disappointed in the media's slanted depiction of events, and their selective reporting. Sure, as private enterprises, they are free to choose what they report, but the honesty and fairness in reporting is long gone, and the leftists, and Islamic Jihadists, appreciate it.
