The devastating news coming out of Haiti regarding the aftermath of the deadly earthquake that struck the small nation is horrifying. The capital, Port-au-Prince, was leveled. Thousands of buildings and homes are nothing more than piles of rubble. Dead bodies, or at least those not under the rubble, are strewn through the streets. A preliminary guess places the death toll around 500,000.
Churches, charitable organizations, and governments are shipping in aid as quick as possible. The area is in dire need of medical supplies, food, and water. If you can donate, find an organization like The Red Cross, and be sure to give.
It is at times like this that Americans are at their best, pulling together to do all we can do.
In addition to giving to charities and disaster relief organizations, also pray for the small nation, and the people that survived.
The international Red Cross said a third of the country's 9 million people may need emergency aid, a burden that would test any nation and a crushing catastrophe for impoverished Haiti.
