Downtown Troy was a sea of red, white and blue Saturday afternoon as people lined the streets to give Senior Airman Bradley Smith a final welcome home.
Even the frigid cold couldn't keep people away from showing their respects or volunteering to help erect more than 530 flags on 10-foot poles through the town.
Smith, 24, of Troy, was killed Jan. 3 in an attack on his unit near Kandahar Airfield in Afghanistan. He was among four U.S. service members who died of wounds from improvised explosive devices, marking the first American combat deaths of the year.
