Nancy Pelosi made a plea to the President, regarding jobs.
From The Office of Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi:
"Washington, D.C. -- . . . Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the Bureau of Labor Statistics' announcement that 470,000 people abandoned their job searches. . . and that 3.2 million private sector jobs have been lost. . . :
"The fact is that [the] President's misguided economic policies have failed to create jobs. Since [he] took office, the country has lost 3.2 million jobs, the worst record since President Hoover. And today we learned that in July nearly half a million people gave up looking for a job.
"Job losses are taking a real toll on the financial security of American families. While Democrats are fighting for opportunity, jobs, and economic security for working families, Republicans continue to focus on helping those who need help the least.
"According to today’s survey, while the national unemployment rate dropped slightly, it still stands at a near record high. In addition, the unemployment rate for African Americans was still over 11 percent in July, and the unemployment rate for Hispanics was 8.2 percent in July.
"It is time for [the] President. . . to get to work for all Americans, not just the elite few."
However, this was not a message to President Obama. This was a message from Pelosi to George W. Bush, August 1, 2003, when the nationwide unemployment rate was still only 6.2%.
The question that arises, then, is with the unemployment rate hovering around double digits, why are the Democrats not making the same argument? Why isn't Pelosi hammering Obama for the high unemployment rate, and arguing that it may be higher because people have simply given up looking for a job? Why isn't the media reporting that, as CNN did in 2003, "This is a pretty negative report. The reason unemployment ticked down is the labor force contracted. That suggests fewer people are getting into the game, looking for work, and that kind of discouragement can lead to a lower unemployment rate."
The numbers were better back when Nancy Pelosi was pleading with George W. Bush to get with the program than they are now, and Bush also inherited a difficult economic downturn, and the don't forget that the country had been attacked on 9/11, which should have caused all kinds of economic upheaval. Despite those forces against the Bush administration, the numbers remained better than they are now (some would say as a result of the tax cuts). Pelosi, nonetheless, was on Bush like a wolf going in for the kill, yet she shrugs off Obama's (and the Congressional Democrat's) dismal numbers.
Pelosi is a partisan, elitist hypocrite that is willing to say anything for her party, including remaining silent when she feels necessary. These people attacked Bush for unemployment numbers that never reached what they have during the Obama years, and hammered George Bush for running deficits that were pot holes compared to the craters of deficits this current administration is creating.
That is how radicals work. They lecture you on fiscal responsibility while accumulating a $1.6 Trillion Budget Deficit.
As for that "I inherited this mess" argument that Obama keeps tossing around, he needs to grow up. Could you imagine if the relief pitcher in a baseball game was put in, gives up runs, and then tells the press, "Well, you have to understand, I inherited the runners on base from the previous pitcher, and the home run I gave up was his fault too."
