Osama bin Laden in Iran?

By Douglas V. Gibbs

A Kuwaiti daily newspaper, Al-Siyassa, is reporting that Osama bin Laden is alive and well, and residing in the mountainous northeastern Iranian province of Khorasan. SAVAMA, the Iranian intelligence service, is reported to be tasked with the duty of protecting the most hated man in the world.

The report by Al-Siyassa also states that other al-Qaeda dignitaries are also being sheltered in Iranian safe-houses.

Israeli intelligence indicates that al Qaeda officials are being safely housed within Iran's borders, as well.

Savzevar, the small town Osama bin Laden is residing in, is a town of about a quarter of a million inhabitants, and it is connected by road to Tehran and Mashhad and has a small airport.

In May American intelligence sources reported that not only have several al Qaeda operatives been holed up in Iran, but that the terrorists have received permission from Iran to depart the country and to cross the Iranian border into Turkey for the purpose of orchestrating terrorist attacks on American targets.

Until recently, the United States intelligence agencies have believed that bin Laden's location was in the wilder parts of the Pakistan-Afghanistan border region.
