Expensive Los Angeles High School Testimony To Liberal Thinking

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Okay, let's think about this for a moment. The State of California is broke. The City of Los Angeles is broke. The United States of America is broke. So, the leftists of Los Angeles asked themselves. . . "Should we build that extremely expensive public school?"

Common sense would dictate that now is not the right time to be throwing millions of dollars into a facility when the economy is taking a nose dive.

But liberals have no common sense, apparently, because they decided to build the school anyway.

The cost? $578 million. More than any public school ever before. The facility boasts a state-of-the-art swimming pool, fine art murals, an ornate auditorium suitable for hosting the Oscars, and a faculty dining room that the superintendent says is "better than most restaurants." And get this. It even cost more than China's Olympic Stadium.

It works out to about $250,000 per pupil.

Haven't they figured out yet that our students are doing worse despite them throwing more money at education?

Perhaps it is the curriculum. Perhaps it is the new age teaching techniques used. Perhaps it is the fact that God has been kicked out, and the kids have been so inundated with secular teaching that they don't even know right from wrong, anymore, much less how to work for an A.

Private schools and home schooling turns out children who do much better in test scores, excell beyond those from public schools later in college, and are much more well adjusted when it comes to their social skills. Now, maybe I am going out on a limb here, but wouldn't it be more prudent to mirror the curriculum and methods of what works, rather than throw more money at the problem, and build a school with money we don't have?

Just a thought.
