The Nativity is the Reason For The Season

By Douglas V. Gibbs

Without Christ, what is Christmas? Jesus Christ is the reason we celebrate Christmas.

The year has been politically tumultuous, but all of these things the political world has thrown at us is minor when it comes to understanding the Gift of Salvation given to us when God came down to be made flesh, and die a gruesome death for our sins.

Now is time to celebrate the birth of our Lord. Granted, Jesus Christ was not technically born in December, and the three wise men actually didn't show up at his birth, but rather a year or so later while Joseph and Mary had fled to protect the life of Baby Jesus. But splitting hairs is not what this is about. Christmas is a celebration of God made into flesh. An opportunity to honor the birth of the "Great I Am" that was born to die so that we may live.

There are many ideas regarding what following Christ represents, and I am here to tell you that I follow what is Biblical. No modern day prophets, no dead self-proclaimed prophets of terror, no spaceships, no political figure, and no false prophet have reached out to humanity as God did through the birth of Jesus Christ.

God reached down from Heaven to give us a Gift, and one day a year we celebrate the birth of that Gift.

Scripture states that Jesus Christ was born as a child. God made into flesh. The savior of mankind. The Messiah.

He has blessed me in many ways. The Lord has blessed me with a wonderful wife, a supportive family, two lovely children, two exquisite grandchildren, and two more grandchildren on the way. We have prospered when prosperity was to be had, and have survived through this economic upheaval. In my life I have survived a coma brought on by a severe head injury, subsequent physical challenges, and spiritual trials. And through it all, I have been married over 26 years to the love of my life, and the future is opening up in spectacular ways as I seek the Will of God.

Those of you who know me know that God literally saved my life, my marriage, and my soul. My life does not belong to me, but to Him. The least I can do is worship Him, and remember the birth of Christ on Christmas. After all, it is His Birth, the Nativity, that is truly the reason for the season.

Matthew 11:28-30 (King James Version)
28Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Luke 2:10-11 (King James Version)
10And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Luke 2:14 (King James Version)
14Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Isaiah 7:14 (King James Version)
14Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Matthew 1:23 (King James Version)
23Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

Isaiah 9:6 (King James Version)
6For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

John 3:16 (King James Version)
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
