The new Republican House of Representative members have indicated that on Thursday will be their first meeting to work on the strategies for repealing the Obama health care plan. Fox News is reporting that the vote to repeal the law will take place January 12th.
In response to the plans by the Republicans to work on repealing Obamacare, the Democrats have responded by writing a letter warning incoming House Speaker John Boenher that a health care repeal would endanger seniors who fall into the so-called Medicare "donut hole." The Democrats also indicated they would do what they could to block any Republican-led effort aimed at repealing the legislation.
With the Democrats maintaining control of the U.S. Senate, the Democrats are figuring blocking the new Republicans to be fairly easy, and even if the repeal got past the Senate as well, Obama could still veto the attempt. The necessary votes to override a veto are not available to Republicans.
One must remember that the Welfare Reform bill reached Clinton three times before he was willing to sign it, but the persistence of the Republicans is what wound up making it happen.
