Keith Olbermann Leaves MSNBC
By Douglas V. Gibbs
One of the most revolting, vile, hard left big mouths on television was actually asking for more money from a network that can't even make enough money to pay for its landscapers. Keith Olbermann, the main dude of MSNBC's failing propaganda network, whose ratings have been dropping with the passing of each year, announced (on the air, no less. . . wow, such class) that he was outta there. Olbermann threatens to leave constantly, always asking for more money, so the network was going to let him go anyway - Keith just figured he'd beat them to the punch.
Now remember that as this turd was asking for more money, management was still thinking about Olbermann's suspension last November over his campaign contributions to three political candidates, which is against the network's rules of conduct. Keith was unapologetic about his behavior, and openly expressed his disdain for the network's actions. One of those recipients of the Olbermann stash, by the way, was Representative Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), who was shot in the head in a shooting on January 8.
The pending takeover of MSNBC's parent company, NBC Universal, by Comcast, the cable and Internet giant, has not been cited as one of the reasons for Olbermann's departure.
After eight years on the air, Olbermann's "Countdown With Keith Olbermann" will go bye-bye. The program attracts a measly 1 million-plus viewers, which for MSNBC standards is the most popular show. Olbermann's program has never, however, even gotten into the ballpark of his competition at Fox News, Bill O'Reilly. Thinking Olbermann's show would increase in popularity, and help the network along, MSNBC populated its prime-time lineup with a whole gaggle of left-leaning hosts, which in turn did nothing for MSNBC, except put them ahead of the not-so-extreme liberal news channel, CNN.
CNN may be considering picking up Olbermann, or Keith might be considering returning to sports full-time. A clause that may be in Olbermann's contract, a no-compete clause, would keep him from going to CNN, since the older network is one of MSNBC's rivals, for several months.
Olbermann was grateful to his fans on the air as he bid farewell, thanking a number of folks along the way, leaving off of that list MSNBC President Phil Griffin, or NBC News President Steve Capus.
Hard Left Wacko Lawrence O'Donnell gets Olbermann's old 8 p.m. slot, and O'Donnell will be replaced by hard left nutcase Ed Schultz.
MSNBC's loss of the negative Olbermann, with his nationally divisive political rhetoric, may learn from this experience, and move away from the liberal tripe they put out. Such a move to the right has been suggested, since Comcast will be grabbing hold of the reins. However, don't hold your breath.
Not one to get along with his employers, Olbermann may find it a difficult time landing a new job. ESPN and Fox Sports experienced his antics for a while, until Olbermann decided to join CNN briefly, and then bounce over to MSNBC in 2003.
Fox News is looking for some good janitors, and Olbermann is used to his ratings being in the toilet. . . it might be a good fit.
As vile as Olbermann is, however, one has to admit that his disgusting political garbage he spewed on MSNBC does not compare to the ignorant rantings of Democrats like Representative Steve Cohen (D-TN) who invoked the Holocaust to attack Republicans on health care and compared rhetoric on the issue to the work of infamous Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels. Comparing Republicans to Nazis not only does not fit into the mold of the Left's new demand for political civility, but also is not historically correct. The Nazi Party was a nationalist-socialist organization, and so would more closely resemble the policies of the Democrats.
Oh, by the way, one of Hitler's platform issues was to continue "health care for all," a system that had been in place in Germany for quite a while up to that point. East Germany's continuance of socialized health care became a disaster, while West Germany's move away from government influence in the health care industry improved West Germany's medical system.
