The celebration of the birth of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is not without confusion. King was a Republican, a Christian, and his dream was that one day people would not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
Voters who voted for Obama because he's black, rather than the content of his character, failed to follow that simple dream.
King's niece, Alveda King, also repeatedly reminds us that her uncle was a devout Christian and he embraced Christian values such as the sanctity of life - which means he would be appalled at the ease we slaughter the millions of lives of unborn children here in America.
Martin Luther King, Jr., also saw people as individuals. We have individual choices to make, and as individuals it is up to us to change the world. Government must not be the "compassionate ones." It is up to us as individuals to do what is right.
Part of doing what is right is recognizing people for the content of their character, not the color of their skin.
King’s vision for America is still not a reality. When groups are blamed for the actions of individuals, such as in the Tucson shooting of Congresswoman Giffords, and when a president is elected primarily for the color of his skin, it is evidence that the liberal left has quite literally slammed the brakes on King's dream for the United States.
Happy Martin Luther King Day. May your journeys be filled with storms, for it is the storms of life that build character, and teach us to judge men by the content of their character, not their external appearance.
