South Central Los Angeles (which is the area along South Central Avenue) is known for its interesting neighborhoods. Watts, the neighborhood that most people only know was the location of the Watts Riots in the sixties, lies just north of the 105 freeway, and was the target location for our deliveries today. The "permeable base" we were delivering was for the sports fields at a middle school.
Anyway, the only reason I bring it up is because despite its notorious history, and the war zone the area can be due to the gang infestation, I enjoyed delivering to Watts today. The curious kids, and other onlookers, waved as we worked.
In fact, the only signs that the neighborhood is crime-ridden was the fact that all of the homes have bars on the windows, the basketball hoops have steel nets, and the sound of a police or ambulance siren seems to be never-ending.
I am returning again in the morning.
