Progressivism champions government. Progressivism claims to seek equality. Producers, or achievers, are seen as the enemy, or at least folks that should shoulder more of the responsibility. . . or "pay their fair share." Progressivism sees these people as able to enjoy greater wealth at the expense of the common people. The belief is that the achievers exploit their success politically, leading to the opposition of progressivism manipulating the system into a boom and bust standard while obtaining greater wealth and influence as a result. The enemy, ultimately, to progressives, is corporate. The corporations are not to be trusted, and the desire is to break down the corporations through heavy government regulation.
Progressives see themselves as the defenders of the populists, while the "right" is seen as being full of fat cat elitists. Therefore, despite evidence to the contrary, progressives see themselves as mainstream, and the defenders of the common people. They believe that their progressive goals are supported one way or another by the majority of the population, and in reality by both existing political parties.
To achieve their aim of a progressive system, the leftists believe that equality must be achieved through government policies. The method includes heavy zoning rules and property taxes so as to bring property more under government scrutiny; a graduated income tax rate to ensure the rich pay their fair share; an estate tax ensuring that government limits inheritance among the wealthy elitists; tax liens and IRS confiscation of property for those considered to be dangerous to the cause (1997 Crime/Terrorist Bill); heavy government regulation of banks and other issuers of credit (Financial Reform Law), including giving authority to a national bank like the Federal Reserve to issue the currency; ensuring that the government regulates communications through the FCC, which includes regulations of all media systems (radio, television, and the Internet through methods like "net neutrality"); limiting corporate capacity through regulatory agencies and government influence by subsidies; establish minimum wage rules, labor unions, affirmative action, and a civilian army of community organizers (GIVE Act) so as to make equal the liability of all to labor; use zoning to gradually equally distribute the population while erasing borders, and providing cheap labor through immigrant workers to the fields that the citizens prefer not to work; and to provide free education for all children through a public school system, teaching the children the importance of protecting the minority, the importance of the rich to pay their fair share, and the advantages of using government to ensure social justice.
Problem is, those methods I just went through are more than the progressive goals. What I just went through with you is actually the Ten Planks of Communism.
Evil Emerges. Her name is Progressivism.
