Ivory Coast Battle Worsens, Bodies Found Burned Alive

By Douglas V. Gibbs

First came news that the Ivory Coast had joined the rash of unrest around the Middle East and North Africa (even though unrest has been present in that country for over a decade). Then word came that the U.N. had gotten involved. Less than a week ago, the United Nations sent helicopters in that fired four missiles at a pro-Gbagbo (Gbagbo is the leader of the Ivorian Popular Front, FPI) military camp in Ivory Coast's main city of Abidjan.

Now, as the fighting increases, United Nation officials are reporting that more than 100 bodies have been found in Ivory Coast over the past 24 hours. Many of the bodies, it is being reported, were burned alive.

It is believed that the bodies are the result of two incidents, one where about 60 were killed, and the other affecting 40 people.

This unrest is the culmination of a civil war that began in 2002, where Gbagbo has been working to assume executive powers over the North African nation.

What amazes me is that while The West is so quick to intercede in Libya, Ivory Coast, and other points in the Muslim World, the slaughters in Darfur, Sudan are not being addressed.

Why? Does Darfur not fit into the puzzle pieces of a forming agenda? Is Obama, and his allies, only willing to get involved when the deaths of Muslims are at risk, but not when it is Muslims committing atrocities such as in Darfur?

The debacle in the Muslim World continues, and the blood is on Barack Obama's hands.
