Since when does the federal government have a right to dictate to a state that it must release criminals into the streets? There is no constitutional authority for the Supreme Court to do such a thing. The claim is for the prisoner's rights to adequate health care, and living conditions. Since when are those rights? None of us have a right to health care, but if we wish to be protected against health issues, we should take the personal responsibility of providing such for ourselves.
I agree, the California prison system is overloaded. The problem needs to be addressed, I agree. How about we start by sending the illegal aliens in the prisons back to where they came from? How about we complete the death sentence of those on death row? How about we separate the minimum security prisoners from the rest of the population and put them in camps where they can help reduce their sentence by working, and largely take care of themselves? There is a lot of things that can relieve the stress on the system. Releasing 46,000 prisoners into the streets not only will not alleviate the stress in the proper manner, but it will increase the stress on the law enforcement system as those people rejoin their criminal allies in the streets.

Interesting you don't mention things like diversion programs, or eliminating prison sentences for drug abusers. You know.. non-violent crime.
It would cost less than housing them and reduce the prison population.
I find it completely illuminating that a christian would instead focus on executing the few hundred prisoners on death row, when that number of prisoners is a drop in the bucket in California.
Who would Jesus execute?
