When the Obama administration decided that Obama's jobs speech to a joint session of Congress was to be on September 7th, opposite the GOP Primary Debate, and Speaker Boehner said "No," the Democrats fully expected the Republicans to cave when they began their name calling. The Democrats, as expected, applied pressure by refusing to back down, and calling the Republicans "childish."
Constitutionally, the Speaker of the House has the authority to dictate when a speech by the President to the House will be.
The GOP grew a spine, Boehner demanded Obama change the date, so he did. . . to the following night opposite football.
Hmmm, if I had a choice between the first game of the NFL season, or listening to Obama, which would I choose?
The White House knows the answer to that one, and changed the speech to a time prior to kick off.
Obama is not the beloved fuehrer he thinks he is, after all.
