Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, the socialist leader of Italy, has resigned. Mario Monti, a former European Commissioner, has been asked to form a government charged with helping defend Italy from Europe’s sovereign debt crisis.
What caused Europe's debt crisis?
Too much spending, and refusal to allow the free market to work.
Political upheaval is on the horizon. Will Italy collapse? Not if they cut spending drastically, and instill market friendly policies that include reduced taxation and reduced regulations against the producers of society.
Otherwise, Italy is doomed to collapse.
Mr. Monti hopes to serve until the end of the current legislature in 2013.
