I am surprised that in Jacob Lew's interview he didn't add, "Whether you like it or not." Mr. Lew is President Obama's Chief of Staff, and in his interview on Fox News he was very clear in articulating that President Obama has a "very deep belief that a woman has a right to all forms of preventive health care, including contraception." Apparently, because Obama thinks he is king, he then believes that his belief is more important than the Catholic Church's belief to the contrary, and that he has the right, through government, to force those that disagree with him to do as he says.
As a non-denominational Christian my concern is not regarding birth control, or even the morning after pill I so emphatically disagree with. My concern is the very fact that in complete disregard of the Constitution, Obama and his liberal cronies have launched an all out assault on the American people, by dictating that people of faith have to offer these services free of charge because the federal government ordered them to. President Obama's Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is forcing religious institutions, be it directly or through insurance companies, at places like religious schools and hospitals, to provide for free abortion pill coverage in their insurance policies for employees whether the religious institutions like it or not, and in complete disregard of their religious beliefs.
This mandate is pro-abortion and anti-religious. But it is worse than forcing religious groups to violate their deeply held religious beliefs. This mandate is opening up yet another avenue for the federal government to dictate to you what you can and can't do, and it is doing it through the draconian Obamacare legislation.
This is not about affordable contraceptive choices, anyhow. Women already have the opportunity to receive free contraceptives and services through the unconstitutionally federally funded Planned Parenthood facilities. Free contraceptives for all is what is being advertised by the democrats. This is more than just that. This mandate is about forcing the liberal belief system on all Americans. This pro-abortion assault is about forcing, through government dictate, whatever the democrats want to force on America, because as we know, government never stops at the first step.
What will the government mandate against Americans next?
No American should be forced to choose between obeying the law and violating their faith. Forcing religious institutions to cover abortion pills against their deeply held religious beliefs is not only morally offensive, but severely unconstitutional as well. The First Amendment disallows the federal government from prohibiting the free exercise of religion, and the establishment clause was specifically placed in the Constitution for the purpose of keeping government out of the church's business, and to keep the government from dictating to the faithful the manner in which they will worship or run church business.
This is, without a single doubt, the greatest assault on religious liberty we have seen in America in history.
And if you think this is bad, just imagine what Obama would be willing to do in a second term, where he has no worry about re-election.
