During last night's Constitution Class at Calvary Chapel Murrieta one of my students brought up an email she got that hammered home the point about the redistribution of wealth. The email read:
The food stamp program, part of the Department of Agriculture, is pleased to be distributing the greatest amount of food stamps, ever.
Meanwhile, the Park Service, also part of the Department of Agriculture, asks us to please not feed the animals, because the animals may grow dependent and not learn to take care of themselves.'
When I went to look this up, I found this was not a new piece. In a video that was posted to the official YouTube channel for the Minnesota GOP House caucus, Rep. Mary Franson, R-Alexandria, used the same quip. The Left went nuts, accusing her of comparing the poor to wild animals, and the video clip was taken down. She then tweeted an apology, even though the quip was right, made a good point, and she was right to tell it.
The point of it being that if you teach dependence, the recipient (no matter who, or what, they are) will lose their willingness to be self-reliant.
First elected in 2010, Franson has been one of the folks working on reducing the amount of time Minnesotans can stay on welfare from five to three years.
Franson says of this in the video below, "I believe that we can get Minnesota's poorest of the poor back up on their feet and moving toward a prosperous future."
