It seems not too long ago that North Korea's new, young dictator decided to trade his nuclear ambitions for food for his people.

North Korea claims the rocket launch they are planning within the week or so is simply to put a satellite into orbit for the purpose of observing crops and natural resources, while denying suspicions that the launch is intended to test long-range missile technology.
North Korea claims a southerly flight path from the rocket launch site was chosen so that debris wouldn't hurt neighboring countries. Nonetheless, North Korea's assurances are not being trusted, air travel is being diverted from the area, and Japan's defense minister has ordered missile units to intercept the rocket if it or its fragments threaten to hit Japan. South Korea has indicated they might shoot down any parts of the North Korean rocket that may be heading for South Korean territory.
The Obama administration has warned that if the rocket launch proceeds as planned the United States may withhold the food aid that had been planned for the hungry nation.
