Regarding Scott Walker, The Obama-Biden Folks Miss The Whole Point

"In selecting men for office, let principle be your guide. Regard not the particular sect or denomination of the candidate -- look to his character." --Noah Webster
By Douglas V. Gibbs

In politics, with democrats, it is all about spending money. They believe that money is what fixes struggling economies, and wins campaigns, and often a big spending candidate will win a campaign due to the fact he was able to get his message out there. Often, however, it is not about the money, but about the message (as it should be), and in the case of Governor Scott Walker, though he out-spent his opponent, the recall election results were all about message.

The democrats don't want you to realize that.

President Obama's team sent me the following email:

Obama - Biden
Douglas --

Mitt Romney's campaign is very happy about what just happened in Wisconsin.

Not really because their guy won -- but because of exactly how he did it.

Republican Governor Scott Walker and his allies just outspent the Democrats nearly eight to one. That's the real story of how the most unpopular governor in America just survived a recall election.

The corporations and special interests Walker spent the last year and a half serving have paid back the favor, spending nearly eight times more than the Democratic challenger to make sure he won that race.

And that's exactly what could happen on the national stage if you allow it.
Then, they asked me for money.

As you can see by reading their email, they think that the only reason Walker won in Wisconsin is because of all the money that was spent. They think he is the "most unpopular governor in America" because their union buddies tell them so, and because among the liberal elite, Walker is the most unpopular governor in America. However, when it comes to the voters, Walker did better in the recall election than he did in the regular election two years ago.

Obama's email also reveals that unlike 2008 where his fundraising reached record numbers, and his campaign spending was phenomenal, his 2012 numbers are anemic, and the democrats are beginning to get real worried. In fact, I think abject panic is setting in.

While watching the numbers coming in on election night, I flipped it over to CNN to see what they were saying about the whole thing. Like Fox News, CNN at that point had called the victory for Walker, but the folks looked quite depressed on the set. They couldn't figure it out. All of the exit polls showed the election a close race, and it could go either way, but the real numbers, the actually vote, proved the exit polls to be dead wrong. Then, using those same exit polls, the CNN staff proclaimed with glee that at least the election was good news for Obama, because the exit polls showed that those same voters that overwhelmingly kept Walker in office would also largely support Obama.

If the exit polls were wrong regarding the Wisconsin election, why would they be accurate regarding the willingness of Wisconsin voters to vote back into office Barack Obama?

The Walker recall election also reminded the democrats that the "battleground states" could very easily be lost, and if that happens, Obama could lose. Forget the poll numbers, time and time again we are being shown that they can't be trusted, the poll numbers always lean left because they over-sample democrats. So if the polls are showing the presidential race is close, then Romney may win.

Panic is setting in at the democrat camp, and they don't understand what is going on. They think conservatism is unpopular, the TEA Party is dead, and that the only way this could be happening is because of all the money being spent.

It couldn't possibly be the message.

The election in Wisconsin had little to do with the money Walker's campaign spent, and everything to do with a distaste for the unions, and Walker's successful conservative policies.  There has been a massive loss of membership in public employee unions in Wisconsin, and for good reason.

One of the reforms Walker put into place was to end the deduction of union dues off the top of the union member's paycheck. As long as it was done that way, the union member never saw the payment being deducted, nor did they ever consider how the money was going straight from their paycheck to the Democrat Party, through the union. Now, people have opted out. They don't want to pay for a public sector union, or a political party, that has been working on bankrupting their State.

Taxpayers have grown weary of giving public sector employees a lifetime of pension that they can retire early on, and for that number of retirees to eventually grow to the point where what is going out becomes a detriment to the State's budget.  There simply is not enough money, and these union people weren't paying anything into their own pension, or health care benefits. It's not sustainable.

Whatever happened to self-reliance?

Nationwide, private sector union membership is down, and the government sector labor union membership is coming down too! The unions are losing their grip. People are sick of entitlements, want entitlement reform, and have now realized that the unions also push an entitlement mentality. They think they are entitled to live off of taxpayer money. Even union members are realizing the madness of the unions.

Walker's initiative against the unions enabled union members to opt out of the State withholding their union dues, and a bunch of folks took advantage of it. They decided they didn't want to be a member of the union anymore.  Around 40,000 people have opted out.

The union leadership threw a temper tantrum. They were willing to do anything to get rid of Walker. Lie, cheat and steal, if they could. They shipped in union members from other States to help with the effort. They poured as much money as they could into the effort. They were going to get rid of Walker, they figured, and return all of the power to the unions. How dare the people think they could vote in someone to hurt the unions. How dare they.

Propaganda began to spread. Suddenly, according to the democrats and the unions, Walker was the most unpopular governor in America. They over-sampled democrats at the polls, and put out the word that according to the exit polls, it was too close to call, and like all other recall efforts in history, the governor was going to lose in a nail biter.  Except, their propaganda, and their lies fell short, because the people felt otherwise.

The exit polls were worthless. The exit polls did not sway the vote. The out of state union members being shipped in by the bus loads to fraudulently vote against Walker was not enough. Walker had cut taxes, cut spending, challenged the unions, and created a budget surplus in a State that only a few years before was talking about bankruptcy, and the people of Wisconsin liked it. Conservatism worked in Wisconsin, and the unions lost big. The democrats lost big. And despite the polls, the reality that Wisconsin could vote "red" in a presidential election for the first time since Reagan is a reality.

The democrats keep telling themselves, it has to be the money he spent. It has to be the money Walker spent on his campaign, because the democrats have demonized conservatism so much that there must not be anyone left in America willing to vote Republican, except those Bible thumping, gun clinging, rightwing extremists.

People pay attention more than the democrats realize. Many of those that voted for Obama realize they were scammed. A New York Times/CBS poll shows that 67% of the American people want Obamacare overturned by the Supreme Court. Big Government is not embraced by the American people. They see the democrats as a detriment to their liberty.

And remember, the polls are off, they lean left, they over-sample democrat voters. . . which means that the 67% of the people not liking Obamacare is a low number. It may be over 75%, or over 80%, for all we know.

It's not about the money, Mr. Obama. Your policies are a failure, and one by one, the American People are realizing it.
