I stopped watching baseball long enough to view Michelle Obama's rousing speech at the Democratic National Convention. Her speech reminded us of how deeply Democrats see the government as their safety net, rather than ourselves, our families, our churches, and our friends in our communities. While proclaiming she and Barack worked hard to get where they are at, at the same time their political opinion is success only happens when government holds your hand every step of the way.
"So many had a hand in our success," she said, which brought to mind Obama's claim that "You didn't build that!" Emotions ran high as she proclaimed that through government we must help each other and not leave anyone hung out to dry, and that is only possible through bigger government. The more government helps you, the more you can help yourself.
It sounded like a preacher, except God was replaced by government.
The problem is, this nation was built on individualism, and not an overbearing government dictating to us our every move. And it may all sound wonderful, as Michelle Obama articulated it, but in the end human nature does not hold such power in lasting benevolence. It may seem wonderful that the caring people in the halls of government will help out, and all we have to do is give them more power over our lives. Don't worry, we are told, they have only our best interests in mind.
This kind of governmental power is not only at odds with the founding principles of this nation, and unauthorized by the Constitution, but it opens the door for a bigger government that historically always becomes tyrannical.
Michelle Obama's speech was brilliant, holding Barack Obama up as some kind of saint, but in the end, it revealed the ignorance of the left, and the dangerous emotional allegiance democrats have to a government that in the end, if not checked by the limiting principles of the U.S. Constitution, can become nothing more than a totalitarian socialist system that causes misery, and strips rights and freedoms from the people.
