Early reports out of Venezuela were saying that the country's socialist dictator, loved by Hollywood liberals, was facing defeat in today's election against opposition candidate Henrique Capriles. The final count was not available when those reports were emerging, and they were based on exit polls. The polls were held open beyond the time for closing them because of long lines, showing how important the Venezuelan voters view this election. The real question for many will be, if Chavez was indeed the loser of the election, would Chavez leave office after defeat?
Hugo Chavez has indicated he will abide by the decision of the voters. I find that hard to believe, considering Chavez's ties to communist countries, hardline leaders, and socialist dictators. Then again, the man that nationalized Venezuela into poverty may see the writing on the wall, and realize it may be best to step down peacefully, if in fact after all of the dust settles, he is indeed the loser of the election.
Then quickly, it all changed, and the closely contested election ended up in Chavez's favor.
Six more years of madness.
American voters, in four weeks, gets to decide if they reject socialism. I have a feeling the United States will fare better than Venezuela, and the election won't be as close.
