Vice Presidential Debate, "Thrill in the Ville," Ready for Launch

By Douglas V. Gibbs

The V.P. debate begins tonight at 6:00 pm Pacific time.  I have been excited about this debate since the day Paul Ryan was picked by Romney to be his running mate.  The square-off between Vice President Joe Biden and Congressman Paul Ryan is going to be fun to watch.  Though Biden is no stranger to these kinds of events, there is no defense for Obama's dismal record.  All Biden can do is attack, and Ryan is a brilliant young politician, and is very capable of deflecting these typical liberal tactics of personal destruction.  This is the first, and last, Vice Presidential debate, of this 2012 election, and my prediction is that the headlines will read, "Ryan wins, Biden left looking foolish."

I had an idea for bumper sticker, not too long ago, but a lack of time and money kept me from having them made. The bumper sticker would read: "That Obama Sticker Makes You Look Stupid."  Well, Mr. Biden, that Obama connection makes you look stupid.  Yes, true, with Biden's foot usually driven deep down his throat, he normally needs no help looking stupid, but between Obama's failed record, and the truth (of which has been pushing the democrats to continuously lie), Biden is in big trouble.

The only concern conservatives have posed to me regarding this debate is when it comes to the social issues.  This is where Obama failed to attack Romney, and Biden is sure to attack Ryan.

The media has already tried to get Romney on these issues, making it a point to report that Romney said he will not pursue abortion legislation.

The liberal left uses government, big government, the federal government, to push their agenda. If they believe something should be so, they try to use the federal government to force their agenda on the people.  Since they think government is to be used as a tool to get done everything they believe, they think the GOP is the same. Therefore, if you are pro-life, they think you will then support federal legislation outlawing abortion.

They don't understand conservatism, especially when it comes to those conservatives that believe in following the principles of the United States Constitution.

Mitt Romney, and hopefully Paul Ryan, seems to understand that abortion is not a federal issue. It is a State issue. Therefore, it is unconstitutional for the federal government to push federal legislation on abortion.  Roe v. Wade needs to be struck down not just because of the unconstitutionality of the case in how it struck down a State law, and created law through the judiciary, but because the federal government has no business being involved in the issue.

"But, Doug, then some States might be pro-abortion, and some might outlaw it?"

Yep. What a wonderful thing. It is okay for the States to be different. They are individuals just like us. If you don't like what your State is doing on that issue, or any State issue, you have one of three choices. Work to change it, put up and shut up, or move to a State that fits your belief system.

If Ryan understands all of this, when Biden attacks him on the social issues, like abortion, he will call upon the Tenth Amendment just like Romney did regarding the difference between Obamacare and Romneycare.  The States have authorities that the federal government doesn't, and abortion, marriage, marijuana, and so on and so forth, are all State issues, and the federal government has no damn business being involved in these issues.

By doing that, the attacks by the democrats become null and void.  It won't matter where the republicans stand on the social issues, because at the federal level there is nothing they can legally do about them.

On the other issues, like the budget, Biden has no chance in Hell. Ryan will sweep the floor with him.  It will be fun to watch. Ryan, I think, will shine. Biden will leave the stage looking more foolish than Obama did after he got his tail kicked by Romney.
