This may be off the beaten path, but the whole idea of a missing tortoise fascinated me. My wife and I were on the way back from a grocery run, driving through a neighborhood adjacent to ours, and on a light pole was a handwritten sign that said, "Help, Missing Tortoise. If you have seen this tortoise, please call. . . " and the plea for help was accompanied by a picture of a fairly large turtle. . . err, uhh, I mean tortoise.
How do you lose a tortoise? They are not exactly known for "running" away.
Did they leave the gate open?
How far could a tortoise get through the night? Wouldn't they have just caught the thing at the end of the driveway?
In all likelihood, the animal was stolen.
Perhaps I am ignorant in the situation. Perhaps there are parameters I am not aware of, or perhaps I just don't understand the capabilities of a rogue tortoise.
