Optimism: Opiate of the Masses

By Douglas V. Gibbs

One of the key aspects of my efforts regarding educating people about the principles of the U.S. Constitution, in the hope that doing so will assist in facilitating a dramatic turn around of American politics, is optimism.  America's best days are not behind her. The beaten down persona of our nation under Barack Obama is not the new normal. We are Americans, and we will persevere.  We have tasted liberty, and once experienced, liberty is not something easily relinquished.

Last night, I attended a meeting hosted by The John Birch Society, and the Sons of Liberty Aleworks, in Norco, California.  The aim was to bring together the leaders of the various patriot groups of the Inland Empire in order to form some kind of coalition. The idea is that we have strength in numbers - or as I say on Constitution Radio every Saturday, "United we stand, combined we kick butt."

John L. Hancock, author of "Liberty Inherited," discussed how at an event in another State organized by a major conservative media voice the overall feeling was one of pessimism, as if it was time to hang it all up and go hide in a concrete bunker.  He said he was depressed by the end of the event.

I reminded the group that the American Revolution was fought by only three percent of the population, and by God's Grace, we were victorious.   Divine Providence has not left us. We can beat back the onslaught of leftism that has entrenched itself in Washington.

This morning, during the early hours of my work day, I was talking to a liberal left Marxist acquaintance of mine who laughed at my optimism. "Your optimism for a continuance of the bondage of capitalism," he said, "is like religion.  It gives hope for unfairness, and poverty of the people while the rich get more powerful.  Your hope and optimism is an empty promise. It is opiate for the masses."

I refuse to believe idiots like him represent the new voice of America.   The United States has not taken a left turn.  The recent election was not the result of a nation deciding the extreme leftism of the current Democrats is where they want America to go.  We outnumber the leftists.  We just have to show up at elections.  The problem is, leftism has a grip on most of the Republican Party as well. That is why pro-Constitution voters have been staying home on election day. So, along with educating the public, we need to make sure we get pro-Constitution candidates on the ballot.
Hence, the idea behind the new coalition.  We need strength through uniting, a united voice beating the Left at their own game.

The coalition has promise. Let's just see if it can weather the attacks once the liberal left progressive Democrats discovers its effectiveness and decides to launch attacks against it.

I believe they will, and I believe despite those attacks, this coalition will make a difference. I am optimistic.
