Scenic Big Sur, California is on fire. 17 homes have been destroyed, including the home of the local fire chief.
The blaze, late in the California fire season, broke out just after midnight on Monday Morning. Since then, it has torched 800 acres. 300 homes have been evacuated. The Pacific Coast Highway community lies south along the Pacific Coast of Monterey.
