Go, Ted, go:
Senate Majority [Chisler "Dirty"] Harry Reid, a staunch supporter of the president's signature healthcare law, has chosen to allow some of his staff to opt out of buying insurance on the new health exchanges. Instead, he's letting them keep their existing federal employee insurance plans.
According to CNN, while Reid and his personal staff will buy insurance through an exchange in accordance with the [Una]ffordable Care[-Less] Act he has chosen to invoke a provision in the law that would permit lawmakers to decide if their committee and leadership staffers join ObamaCare.
The move drew a swift, sarcastic response from Republican Senator Ted Cruz on Twitter:
Sen. Dem Ldr exempted top staff who worked to pass ObamaCare. Was it the higher costs or reduced choices? http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/04/politics/reid-obamacare-staff/index.html … #FullRepeal
It's funny, because Democrats, especially under Obama, are supposed to be these marketing geniuses. Although I may be confusing that with their prowess at smearing Republicans. And I may be confusing marketing genius with O's ability to promote his excess epidermal pigmentation as his eternal overriding qualification for his entrenched position as permanent ruler of Obamerika. Certainly when it comes to promoting anything and anyone else, he, and they, have an uncanny knack for turning chicken salad into chicken crap.
But this sort of undisguised, Marie Antoinette-esque "let them eat cake" disdain at the same time as Dear Leader is bellowing his "full speed ahead" defiance and millions more Americans lose their health care coverage by the week is just....retarded. Either their cosmic arrogance has rendered them delusional to the point of autism or they know that the "fix" is in in more ways than one.
I just wish Senator Cruz had saved some snark for The One himself, who is also as promiscuous a flack for his namesake as he is reticent a customer of it:
Despite promising to enroll in his controversial and problem-plagued signature healthcare legislation, President Barack Obama is still not a customer.
"I don't have an update for you on that," White House press secretary Jay Carney said Monday at his daily briefing, USA Today reports. "I know that he will and has said that he will."
Well, that sure as shinola doesn't settle that question, does it?
In March 2010 the White House announced that Obama "will participate in the exchange," the vernacular for the insurance marketplaces.
Carney said he did not have a timetable for when the president would enroll nor did he know if Obama's registration would be open to the press.
After multiple media death's-heads have tried and failed to do so on the air? After healthcare.gov fell down the stairs and pooped its pants for Commissar Sebelius at an O-Care photo-op? He'd be safer climbing upside-down in a sleeping bag in the
IOW, of course it will be open to the press. He'll just have a conflicting tee time and will send somebody in his place.
Joe Biden, maybe.
Even Senator Cruz ought to appreciate that.
