I receive emails regarding my radio program often. A regular listener, and constant critic, is Nathan in Orlando. Below I have posted his letter to me, and my response. . . but first, a little back story.
First, about Nathan. This gentleman has been following my show since its infancy on BlogTalkRadio. He has been a loyal listener, and a constant contributor to what he believes my show should cover. He has recommended potential guests, and a few times has even orchestrated enabling guests to come on my show. He first found out about me through Andrea Shea King, a fellow broadcaster who used to have a radio program on WDBO, an AM station on the Space Coast in Florida, but now performs her radio broadcasting talents exclusively on BlogTalkRadio.
Second, about the show Nathan is referring to in his letter. As a constant critic of the Republican Party, anytime I say something favorable about the GOP, I am sure to receive a communication from our friend in Florida. Last Saturday's program, on March 15, 2014, my guest was former Senator Jim DeMint, and the current president of the Heritage Foundation. Nathan's remarks are about my interview of Senator DeMint and our discussion regarding his book, "Falling In Love With America Again," as well as a number of quips I made during that interview, and after the interview.
The Jefferson quote Nathan refers to in his email to me refers to a quote by Thomas Jefferson listed on page v. of the latest edition of the National Center for Constitutional Studies pocket constitution. The quote reads, "We in America do not have government by the majority - we have a government by the majority who participate. . . All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent."
My lack of heavy criticism against the Republican Party, or at least my lack of criticism against the republicans that is even close to the criticism I launch regarding the democrats, leads Nathan to believe I support the Republican Party as a whole, and that I endorse every single one of their blunders. He considers this to be akin to an oath to the party, of which he is disgusted by, especially since he does not believe we can move forward as a nation as long as the party system is in place.
Nathan also seems to have a problem with the Heritage Foundation, calling it socialist, and believes it is plugged into the establishment system. By supporting such an organization, and continuing to vote Republican, if only to turn that party around as I like to point out, a person is, in the eyes of Nathan, according to this letter, violating his conscience. He listens to his conscience by voting, if and when he votes, for a person that is not a part of a party. I have no problem with somebody that votes the man, and not the party. That is a commendable thing to do. But, we must remember, the war is against liberal left socialism, and to not work united in this war is to lose this war.
I made a quip during the show that when people ask me if my glass is half empty or half full, I say, "It's not big enough for everything I want to shove into it. Nathan has decided my response was not acceptable, and is actually religiously influenced.
I also stated at one point that in politics, it is all about perception, meaning that voters believe what they perceive, even if it isn't the truth, so in addition to putting out the truth, we have to ensure the perception of what we are doing coincides with what we are trying to do.
I am a constant optimist, and I relay that optimism as often as I can. I believe this country can be turned around, but the vehicle we must use is one that is available to us at this instant. Nathan disagrees. He believes it is too late, it seems, and that collapse is inevitable. He is correct that you can change minds, but not hearts, and without the changing of hearts, the effort is not good enough. His perception of that path, however, differs from mind.
And without further adieu, his email, and then my response:
Doug,
On the Jefferson quote about people of good conscience remaining silent. It is the people of strong moral conscience who have stayed home rejecting the GOP.These were the awakened ones who put Ronald Reagan in the W.H.The problem is not a lack strong moral consciences,it is the immoral politicians. There are more than 40 million people who have the resolve of conscience to not violate their conscience voting for the Republican Socialist. The GOP has bled numbers after Reagan left office. You have supported these politicians and remained silent about their record as you trash the democrats for the same policies.
The Heritage Foundation has given us more policies that Socialized America than the democrats have. The resolve of oath to the Constitution has to be more important than the oath to the GOP.I would suggest you filter your oath to the GOP to the standard of the US Constitution piece by piece.
Doug,on your glass half empty-half full, what you are talking about is the religion of Hindu.I disagree with it.Perception is not Reality,Perception is Behavior.Facts and Evidence is Reality. The glass is half empty if you are drinking from it.The glass is half full if you are filling it up.If you get a flat tire you don't celebrate the 3 tires that hold air,you put the emphasis on the tire that has you stranded. That is reality. You again said you are Optimistic, but gave no proof other than making the statement you are positive. You should reach the mind and not the heart. You just cannot get people to paddle away from the Falls with the GOP in the boat, they are the ones who have gotten us to the point of no return. You can prove me wrong with their record.
Nathan,
As for those voters, like you, that stayed home, as bad as the GOP is, the Democrat Party is much worse, and is no longer just the opposition, but the enemy. Staying home ensured that a Marxist with the full intent of destroying this nation stayed in office. Romney is no saint, and deep down is not a conservative. I get that. But unlike Obama, Romney loves this country, and is fairly fiscally conservative, especially compared to any democrat out there.
I have not abandoned the Republican Party because I think it is wonderful, or because I think it is our salvation. The opposite is true. I recognize the problems in the party. I recognize that there is an establishment that can't be trusted, and that for all intents and purposes is not much different from the liberal leftists in control of the party of the jackass. However, at this moment, we have to work with what we've got to stop the bleeding. I am not worried about a bunch of cuts and bruises when I need to apply a tourniquet. The GOP, despite its flaws, is the vehicle available to us at this moment, and so my goal is to turn it around, to influence it, and to do so in a way that we stop the massive bleeding being caused by the democrats. We are in an all out war, and refusing to fight on the battlefield because you have problems with a few of your allies is not how you stop the communist coup that has taken place in the White House.
Until another viable vehicle emerges, the Republican Party is what we have to work with. If my enemy has a machine gun, and all I have is rocks and sticks, I don't throw up my hands and walk away. I will throw rocks and sticks until I figure out a way to get one of those machine guns. That is how war works. You use what you have available, until you are able to procure better weapons.
A part of turning this country around is educating it, but that will take time. The GOP may be the slow road to the same goal the democrats have, but at least it would give us time to educate, and infiltrate. Standing outside the battle lines will not save this country. Infiltration, and working within the vehicle available to us is the way to do it.
By demonizing the GOP, and ignoring the democrats, as you do, you are helping the democrats. You are assisting the enemy. You are right, the party system is a joke, but it exists, and it is what we must use to stop the communist takeover of this nation. Refusing to pick battles is to lose those battles.
We need you in this fight. Please, set aside your hatred for the republicans, and realize that for the time being, we have to use them to stop this madness. Once we stop the insanity, we can deal with the republicans.
As an added note, this is not to say that the feet of moderate to liberal republicans should not be held to the fire. Their unconstitutional behavior should be pointed out. I didn't correct my children because I hated them, when they were younger. I corrected them to get them to understand how they should act. There is nothing wrong with criticism of these republicans. It is the vitriol and non-stop attacks that I have a problem with. They are not the enemy, they are wayward children that need to be guided and corrected. . . well, except for jokers like McCain. He deserves the grief he is getting. Some of those knuckleheads are beyond saving.
Blessings,
