Boehner Stacks Benghazi Committee With Legal Powerhouses

by JASmius

Let us just say, just as with tapping Trey Gowdy as chairman, the Speaker is not scrimping on the House Select Committee on Benghazi:

House Speaker John Boehner's selection of seven Republicans on a select committee to investigate the Benghazi attacks that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other diplomatic staff members in September 2012 reveals a mix of male and female lawmakers who bring a variety of experience and political power to the table.

The committee, which is being led by Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-SC4, includes Republican Representatives Susan Brooks, IN-5; Jim Jordan, OH4; Mike Pompeo, KS4; Martha Roby, AL2; Peter Roskam, IL6; and Lynn Westmoreland, GA3, reports the Washington Post.

Boehner announced the committee earlier on Friday, including a message on Twitter inviting Americans to "meet your majority members."

Westmoreland, a building construction executive, is the only member of the committee who is not an attorney by trade.

Nobody can accuse Speaker Boehner of opting for appearance over substance, or stacking the deck in favor of the "establishment" or tenure.  Gowdy, Pompeo, Roby, and Brooks are either freshmen or sophomores, and the seniormost Member, Roskam, was first elected in 2006.  The latter is the only one who could be called a political ally of Boehner, while Gowdy (as we know) and Brooks are past federal prosecutors, Jordan's conservative bona fides are unassailable, Pompeo is a veteran and possible successor to Representative Mike Rogers (R-MI8) as chairman of the House Select Committee On Intelligence, Roby has already led one investigation into the attacks as chairwoman of the Armed Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, probing the military’s preparation and response, and Westmoreland also sits on the House Intelligence Committee.

In short, Boehner has covered all the bases and his own ass at the same time.

By rather gaping contrast, House Minority Leader "Crazy Nancy" Pelosi has already ludicrously tried to bully Boehner into making the HSCB even-"stevens" in terms of partisan apportionment, ranking minority member of the House Government Reform & Oversight Committee Elijah Cummings (D-MD7) is demanding that Boehner "shut down 'right now' any use of the Benghazi scandal for fundraising purposes" - to which my retort would be, "You first, E.C." - and other House Donks are busying themselves with far more important matters like bulldozing the Washington Redskins into changing their nickname to the "Honest Injuns"

So many on the Right are petrified that the HSCB is going to "backfire" on the GOP and maybe even cost them control of the House this fall.  But given what we know and highly educatedly suspect about Benghazigate, and the aforementioned "gaping contrast," I would assert that the 1% chance that Democrats are generally thought to have of retaking the House is, shall we say, excessively generous.

The HSCB won't bring down the Obama Regime - nothing can accomplish that - but congressional Democrats will be a whole other story.
