We've seen the popular movies, the "Terminator" type where as we advance in technology, robots and artificial intelligence does as well, and then the machines decide humanity must die. "Eagle Eye" has a super computer that decides humanity must be done away with because we are a danger to the planet. "I, Robot" is intent on enslaving humanity to protect us from ourselves, using a young man to put its plan into action. Perhaps, that danger lies out there in the future. But, in reality, on the horizon we may actually be seeing a more beneficial role for robots as we enter a new age of technology. Be aware, we will enter this age rapidly, just like we did with the Internet, and Smart Phones.
Rodney Brooks has a positive outlook on what is coming our way, and his presentation about Baxter is absolutely amazing. The robot in the video even has a certain level of "Common Sense," which puts that robot above politicians, I believe, on the food chain.
