They're already here, Senator. They're one of O's crisis exploitation options.
Or is my cynical perspicacity pre-empting you?:
If President Barack Obama doesn’t come up with a strategy to exterminate the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), the United States is in imminent peril of jihadists blowing up Americans on U.S. soil, Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson, a member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, warned Thursday on “America’s Forum.”
You know what depresses me about that admonition? Not that Senator Johnson isn't absolutely correct in saying it - he's spot on. Rather, it is that such an admonition even has to be made in the first place. Over five and a half years ago, the war in Iraq had been won, al Qaeda had been defeated, Iraq had been pacified, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was "detained," and ISIS didn't exist; now, Iraq has been lost, al Qaeda has been superceded by ISIS, AB-squared is the Global Caliph ordering the public executions of American captives because it's "fun," the resumption of the jihadist North American offensive is imminent, and Barack Obama is taking endless victory laps down the fairway.
And none of it had to happen.
“President Obama declared about a year ago that the war on terror is over; [well], it is not over,” Johnson said. “ISIS is not war weary. This is a direct threat to the United States and to American citizens and we just saw that in the brutal execution of (American journalist) Jim Foley. We need a president that recognizes the reality, fully engaged, on the job, leading and assembling this coalition of the willing to defeat ISIS.”
The one mitigation I will acknowledge regard O's leisure addiction is that, with modern communications, a POTUS is "on the job" 24/7 no matter where they are. It's not that he's loafing on Martha's Vineyard so much as that that's what it looks like he's doing. It's the optics, in other words. And that's part & parcel of leadership. True, responsible leaders understand how they're perceived by Da Peepul, and when serious bleep is going on, at home or abroad, they know that it's important that the public see them where they need to be, doing what they're supposed to be doing. British Prime Minister David Cameron canceled his vacation after the Foley execution video emerged and returned to London; President Relentless Pursuit motorcaded off to his next tee time.
That said, I hope Senator Johnson is aware that his is advice that The One will never take. He's flat out calling for Barack Obama to organize and lead Operation Iraqi Freedom II. There is a greater chance of ISIS re-attaching Mr. Foley's head with superglue and reanimating his corpse with an old Diehard battery and a set of rusty jumper cables than there is of Barack Obama conceding that he was 100% wrong about Iraq and reprising George W. Bush's Middle East policy steps. So ISIS's blitzkrieg right across the American homeland is inevitable.
Does Senator Johnson realize our doom?
“The future is won by people who go out and win it,” Johnson said. “It is won by people who go defeat evil. It doesn't just happen by itself. I'm looking for a real strategy out of this president beyond just protecting Americans in Baghdad and acting when there's just a humanitarian crisis about to be committed. We need a president that is leading the world that is assembling that coalition that would include western nations and Arab states. We need a president on the job. You mention the president going back to the golf course and it’s further evidence of his detachment, his lack of leadership on this issue and this is a moment in time when America sorely needs strong leadership.”
But Barack Obama has already defeated "evil," Senator, when he beat John McCain and Mitt Romney and repeatedly buggers congressional Republicans. That's how he sees "evil". And he's "fundamentally transformed" the United States of America into a gigantic Luxembourg, just as he promised. He's exercised and displayed all the Marxist-Alinskyist leadership any leftie could ever want. ISIS? That's an inconvenient distraction.
I'll say it one more time: Don't expect pro-American leadership from an anti-American president.
Expect, rather, precisely what we're all going to get....
