He brings sunshine on the 2,051st consecutive cloudy day, he tries to sell apples to Adam & Eve on the day of Abel's funeral, he offers crap sandwiches to a man who's just been forced to ingest an entire compost heap.
You could almost admire the persistence of Barack Hussein Obama if not for the fact that his ego won't allow him to do or say anything else:
Barack Obama renewed his push for Congress to raise the minimum wage Monday in a buoyant accounting of the economy's "revving" performance, delivered on behalf of Democrats opening their fall campaigns for the midterm congressional elections.
"America deserves a raise," he told a union crowd in Milwaukee, vowing to keep a hard sell on Congress in much the way he once courted his wife. "I just wore her down," he cracked.
Timing his push to Labor Day, the traditional start of the autumn campaign, Obama aggressively drew attention to recent economic gains, setting aside past caution on that subject.
"By almost every measure the American economy and American workers are better off than when I took office," he said, rattling off a string of improving economic indicators even while acknowledging not all people are benefiting. "The engines," he said, "are revving a little louder."
And the White House wonders why more and more Americans consider President Revver delusional. Let's see; GDP is deep in negative territory year to date (which is to say, the U.S. economy is shrinking); the U.S. labor force is evaporating, which is why the U3 unemployment rate continues to falsely shrink when, in reality, it's upwards of three times as large as the Regime's claimed number; the number of Americans on some form or another of welfare is surpassing record levels; the number of U.S.-based companies fleeing O's taxation jihad is becoming a stampede (just as Burger King); new (which is to say, small) business start-ups are non-existent, which is why real (which is to say, full-time with benefits) jobs are being steadily lost at an alarming rate and replaced with fake (which is to say, part time without benefits) jobs - thanks, ObamaCare! - the embers of inflation are being stirred up by the Federal Reserve's relentless debt monetization; and the next stock market crash is looming. If I left out any Obamanomical ray of hope, you are cordially invited to leave it in the comments.
And Barack Obama's idea of a pep talk for Democrat voters is....a fresh flog at raising the minimum wage? A move that would destroy still more entry-level jobs when youth, and particularly black youth, unemployment is in the stratosphere and put more small businesses out of business. A "shiny" distraction from ObamaCare that was last tiresomely trundled out more than six months ago to a quick yawn and fizzle, with more than a little sneering mixed in for good measure. I can't quite recall if a minimum wage hike came before or after "income inequality," which he quietly let founder below the issue waves after it emerged that income inequality has expanded at four times the rate it ever did under George W. Bush, as tends to happen when an economy isn't growing and there is little or no economic opportunity or upward economic mobility. Kind of like musical chairs: those left standing after the music stops either have to tackle somebody off of their chair or they're screwed. Barack Obama is simply happy to offer that service for them, at the price of their freedom, liberty, independence, and personal sovereignty.
Well, I suppose he needed a distraction from his distraction from his running out of bluffs on the ISIS crisis. Oh, and chickening out on his highly-anticipated illegal, unconstitutional Executive amnesty decree. That one was a real buzzkiller.
That probably explains this little development:
For the first time since November 2011, President Barack Obama's approval rating in California has dipped below 50%, according to a poll released today.
In the latest Field Poll, only 45% of California voters approve of the job Obama is doing, a five-point decline from June, and represents the lowest support of his presidency....
The recent decline is a consequence of diminished support among "subgroups of voters who had been among Obama’s strongest supporters in prior polls," according to a news release from the pollsters.
For example, there has been a nine-point decline in the way Democratic voters view the president. In early June, 76% of California Democrats approved of the president’s performance in office. That has dropped to 68% in the current poll.
"Obama's popularity couldn't get much lower among Republicans, but this is his base that's leaving him: liberals, people in the bay area and Los Angeles. And the people who typically are paying the most attention (to national affairs) are the most unhappy," Mark DiCamillo, director of the Field Poll, told SFGate.
In short, the "We need to put the right socialist in charge" dynamic. Leftism invariably does two things: it always, ALWAYS looks great on paper, and it always, ALWAYS fails miserably in real-world application. But because it is a secular religion for its adherents and acolytes, their abject zealotry a moral supremacism will not permit them to even subconsciously consider the potentiality that their policy dogma can ever fail on any issue, foreign or domestic. Hence, leftism's invariable pair of definitionally ironclad excuses: Evil, wicked forces (i.e. constitutionalists, conservatives, Christian evangelicals, "white America," "greedy capitalists," the Tea Party, Republicans, etc., etc., etc.) have "conspired" and "colluded" to "sabotage" the onset of Obamatopia; and if only they had elected the right leftist, all those evil, wicked forces blocking the arrival of Paradise could have been crushed at a stroke, wiped from existence, and Heaven On Earth would already be here. And so, in Sisyphean fashion, the Left has to trudge all the way back down the hill and start pushing the rock back towards its summit once again. It's all the more depressing for them given that this time they had found a GOD!, a MESSIAH, a Bringer of light, peace, wisdom, understanding, and unending piles of plunder from the forces of evil and wickedness.
"Behold, a god who bleeds."
And the only Band Aid Godbama can offer is....another minimum wage hike.
Probably explains all the golf.
